BOSTON, Mass. – The Northeast Microelectronics Coalition (NEMC) Hub, a division of the Massachusetts Technology Collaborative (MassTech) launched the SCALE Capital program, a $10 million grant initiative to advance microelectronics capability, training and product development across Massachusetts.
The SCALE Capital Program, also known as the Supporting Chip Advancement from Lab to Enterprise Capital Program, provides funding to help organizations purchase cutting-edge equipment for microelectronics projects. Eligible entities in the program include a range of organizations, from higher education institutions to small businesses, with projects based in Massachusetts.
Investments in eligible organizations will support the development of microelectronics capabilities, products and connectivity between organizations by making equipment available to the broader microelectronics community. The grants will also support technology advancement, education, workforce development and the creation of new certification programs.
“Massachusetts anticipates the SCALE Capital Program will drive job growth and innovation across our state,” said Massachusetts Interim Economic Development Secretary Ashley Stolba. “The microelectronics industry is a key sector for the Massachusetts innovation economy. By continuing to make smart investments in this sector, we will attract new talent, investment and commercial enterprises to our state."
“The SCALE Capital Program will expand microelectronics infrastructure capability and capacity throughout Massachusetts,” said NEMC Hub Director Mark Halfman. “This initiative reflects NEMC’s commitment to its members, continuing to build out a sustainable and collaborative microelectronics ecosystem, accelerating technology transition and commercialization.”
Building upon the NEMC Hub’s successful PROPEL grant program, the SCALE Capital Program is poised to transform the microelectronics ecosystem in Massachusetts by bridging the gap between technology development and market readiness.
- Ecosystem Development: Projects that identify lab-to-fab facility and/or equipment needs and propose the purchasing, installation and utilization of that equipment for the benefit of the broader microelectronics community.
- Workforce Development: Projects that identify capital equipment needs and propose corresponding purchases to enhance existing projects or contribute to new microelectronics education and training programs driven by employer needs across the state.
- Technology Development: Projects focusing on early-stage microelectronics concepts, helping to mature the technologies to a point of readiness for public and/or private investment.
