Workforce Development Programs

Powering the future, the NEMC Hub’s Workforce Development Programs are helping to build next-gen microelectronics talent.

Microelectronics Internship Program

The Northeast Microelectronics Summer Internship Program (NMIP) provides a solution to the internship problem that has been limiting workforce development in microelectronics. The goal of the program is to scale an established internship program that connects first year and sophomore students in the Northeast to the microelectronics industry before they move into the world of software. The NMIP not only provides paid industry-focused summer internships to these students, but also exposes the students to the broader microelectronics ecosystem by organizing bi-weekly field trips to microelectronics companies in the region.

e-Capture the Flag

MITRE’s Embedded Capture-the-Flag (eCTF) competition focuses on rapidly scaling an existing program with proven results in attracting students and developing skills in secure microelectronics. The program leverages gamification to bridge the educational gap in embedded systems security and microelectronics and helps prepare a workforce for this critical field. The eCTF is designed as a hands-on, project-based learning experience that caters to participants of various skill levels. This competition is for high school, community college, undergraduate, and graduate students looking to gain practical skills in embedded system security and microelectronics.

SkillBridge Fellowships

The Headlamp SkillBridge Fellowships program creates employment opportunities and fulfills training requirements for veterans in their last 180 days of active duty. Leveraging the NEMC Hub, the program will be scaled to provide a structured pathway from general education about the microelectronics industry to employer-specific training, concluding with a SkillBridge fellowship at a NEMC Hub company. The goal is to drive net migration into the Northeast for the industry.
